Need Advice on Server configuration

I have lab of 80 computer in my school.

I need to run terminal server on each pc using remote desktop service of Microsoft server 2003. I need to run applications like Java, .NET, wamp, turbo c and other low memory applications like ms office and internet.

so, could you please recommended some configuration for Mother Board and Processor.

If you need any other information feel free to ask.

UPDATE:

Actually I have 80 computer ready, which are able to run windown xp. I want to run remote desktop on that 80 PCs through WinXp but I need to some advice on server related hardware especially about Processor.

and also note that I decide to put about 3 server, so each server should handle 25 terminal computer connections.

Please consider that i want to run vb.net, wamp, java and other low memory applications

if you still need any information feel free to ask thanks for your such support.

  • If you're going to do this I would recommend ALOT of RAM. About 20GB maybe, even if they are low memory applications, it's best to have alot of RAM.

You could always go the thin-client way and have everything run on the server. So people are logging in using their Active Directory details and basically interacting with the server. This would be an easier and safer idea. However each of these options are not cheap or easy to set up. Also for terminal services you have to think about the amount of licenses needed.

For a thin-client setup, you have to think about the thin-client machines (e.g. Wyse), 64 bit Server OS (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise), Virtualization software (Plesk Virtuozzo) and also the infrastrusture. This would include a SAN to store the data on, 2 servers to run Windows Server 2008 and Plesk Virtuozzo (for load balancing and so if one machine goes down, the other one can take over).

If set up correctly it will be easier to maintain and administer.
